The 2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron is simply one of the nicest, most straightforward luxury EVs you can buy. It’s not a whiz-bang, party-trick powerhouse of tech, but that’s completely fine. Its virtues such as an ultra-quiet cabin, sumptuous materials and lovely tactile surfaces combine to make it a car that I’d love to commute in, run errands with or otherwise just enjoy being inside.
The most amazing thing I saw yesterday at CES was the Mobion Concept by Hyundai-owned Mobis, a parts supplier focused on electrification, connectivity and autonomous systems. It spun 360 degrees. It moved laterally. It moved diagonally. It did a slow-motion doughnut. I didn’t catch the very beginning of the presentation, so perhaps I missed the julienne fries.
CES is almost always a massive event in the automotive world. CES is here! Join us starting Monday, Jan. 9, for coverage of the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show. It's gearing up to be a strange one. The bigger U.S. automakers have begged off this year, largely citing costs and complications in the wake of the 2023 UAW strike. If you were expecting to hear updates from the Detroit Three about their electric pickup efforts, you'll have to wait for the next big thing.
Entering the new year, we've got plenty of cars we'll be looking forward to trying out, but we also wanted to take one more look at what we drove last year. And in addition to our favorites, well, we also wanted to look at the disappointments. These might not be outright bad, especially as the number of genuinely bad cars is at an all-time low. But what these cars do, is miss out on our expectations. We're not angry with these cars, trucks and SUVs, just, well, disappointed. – Joel Stocksdale
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V is the luxury muscle SUV to rule them all. Handling? What handling? This is a freakin’ Escalade. Noise? Oh, this entire review could exclusively consist of noise impressions, and there would still be more to say. Luxury? You bet. Nothing about the Escalade-V’s pursuit of performance interferes with its traditional role of being a driving barcalounger, which is as it should be.
While looking at the nine-page rundown of everything I wrote in 2023, there were a lot of luggage tests to work through, and as much I'm sure you'd all just love to check out Luggage Test Greatest Hits, I went a different route. For whatever random reasons, my most memorable drives from 2023 came while driving Audis and Porsches, while the Ford Mustang, my personal Kia Niro EV and my once-upon-a-time personal Acura TSX provided additional memorable stories.
