Fisker has announced that it has just begun deliveries of the entry-level Ocean Sport SUV, but it's not all good news. For one thing, the deliveries have not started in the US but in the UK. For another, only one example has been delivered thus far. While Ocean production has been steadily increasing, the electric SUV is still far from a common sight on our roads, and other Fisker products are not yet in production.
Henrik Fisker—the former BMW, Ford, and Aston Martin designer—returned with his second eponymous company this year, delivering the first examples of the electric Fisker Ocean SUV. But his original dream, the Karma sedan, lived on after Fisker Automotive went bankrupt in 2013. Dubbed the Karma Revero, the slinky sedan has been sold in minuscule numbers by California-based and Chinese-owned Karma Automotive since 2017, refreshed and renamed the GS-6 in 2021. Now Karma has revealed the eye-catching Kaveya coupe, which will lead the company's three-pronged plan for surviving through the 2020s. Unveiled in Las Vegas over the weekend, the Kaveya is undoubtedly a stunning machine. Measuring 187.7 inches from bumper to bumper, it's a tad lengthier than an Aston Martin DB12, although its 107.0-inch wheelbase is about three inches shorter. Karma estimates a curb weight of 5300 pounds, with an aluminum space frame draped in carbon-fiber body panels. The bodywork is smooth and glossy, with thin headlights and taillights and subtle slashes that serve as cooling vents and ae
Fisker put a Pear on display at the L.A. Auto show in production spec. The latest display came with a few more updates on the urban EV planned to enter production at the end of next year at Foxconn's plant in Lordstown, Ohio. The first new bit is what's being called a «see-through A-pillar.» The only car we've ever seen with an actual see-through A-pillar was the 2001 Volvo Safety Car Concept, the feature not making it to production on the C30 hatchback, regrettably. On the Pear, the see-through bit is performed by cameras projecting the view obscured by the A-pillars onto small screens located inside the cabin where the instrument panel meets the doors. These screens would also help explain Fisker's desire to sell the Pear with side-view cameras in the U.S., since the screens are already there. The displays weren't shown in the photos Fisker released in August, but they were in the auto show car.
Fisker said on Friday that its new distribution strategy would help improve delivery speed and volume, which the electric vehicle company noted was a bottleneck that curbed production.
Over the weekend, Karma Automotive CEO Marques McCammon presided over the re-relaunch of the 10-year-old automaker. The way forward will be led in spirit by this, the Karma Kaveya coupe. We say «in spirit» because the car isn't due until the end of 2025; however, it sets the tone for the vehicles coming before then, which includes an updated Revero range-extender EV and the Gyesera «touring sedan.»
BERLIN — U.S. electric vehicle startup Fisker is negotiating with five carmakers over a partnership to secure additional production capacity for its vehicles, its Chief Executive Henrik Fisker said on Thursday.
Right now, as the embargo lifts, you're going to see a plethora of reviews complete with star ratings or marks out of 10 drop for the Fisker Ocean. This won't be one of them. Why? In my opinion, this EV, one many have been waiting for thanks to its heady mix of keen pricing, long range and catchy design, just isn't ready to be scored.
