State-owned Chinese car manufacturer GAC Group became the newest member of Nio‘s battery swap alliance. Together, GAC and Nio will promote the establishment of battery standards for swappable batteries and develop a battery swap service network. Last year, GAC Group sold almost 550,000 new energy vehicles.
Move over, Tyrannosaurus Rex, the future of ferocious electric vehicles has arrived – well, sort of. GAC unveiled the second-gen Aion V electric SUV at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, and let’s just say the designers took some creative liberties with a, shall we say, slightly spore-based interpretation of the king of the Cretaceous.You see, the designers claim the new Aion V’s exterior draws inspiration from the Tyrannosaurus Rex, which explains the rather perplexing presence of a robotic dinosaur figure at the show.
GAC, the Chinese automaker, hosted the 2024 GAC Technology Day with the theme “Vision of Technology” in Guangzhou on April 12th. The tech-focused event introduced the first domestically developed image-based autonomous driving solution, the Garcia Intelligent Driving System, and a “high-security, high-capacity” solid-state power battery.
On April 7, GAC Aion and Didi Autonomous Driving announced that their joint venture, Guangzhou Andi Technology, had been granted a commercial license in China. The joint venture aims at the Robotaxi (unmanned taxi) field and plans to launch its first commercial Level 4 autonomous vehicle in 2025 with a total production of 100,000 units. Currently, the first model has completed product definition and is undergoing a joint design review.
At Nvidia’s 2024 GTC AI Conference, Nvidia announced that major Chinese automakers including BYD, GAC Aion Hyper, and Xpeng, have embraced the Drive Thor chip to power their upcoming consumer and commercial fleets. This follows announcements made by Li Auto during CES 2024 earlier this year. Nvidia unveiled the Drive Thor back on September 20, 2022, positioning it as the successor to Drive Orin and targeting automakers’ 2025 models.
Chinese automaker GAC Aion has just presented its latest and perhaps most striking model that looks like it has been lifted out of one of the Midnight Club games from the early 2000s or an early Fast & Furious film. The new Aion S Black Dragon Max lives up to its incredible name with several eye-catching aerodynamic components and a hard-to-miss decal.Based on the regular Aion S Max sedan introduced late last year, the Black Dragon Max adds a more aggressive front bumper with a large splitter and aerodynamic canards on either side.
GAC Group, one of the leading automakers in China, has launched the Aion Hyper GT intelligent driving 3L version. The level 3 intelligent driving upgrades are the main difference between this model and its predecessors. Priced at 259,900 yuan (36,900 USD), the new electric sedan has several noteworthy features and advancements. The Hyper GT was initially launched last year with mixed reviews.
