Hyundai India is working on expanding the Creta range with the Creta EV, which has been spied testing on our roads before. However, this time, it seems to be bearing the Creta facelift’s design cues under the camouflage.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), currently the No.2 best-selling automaker in India after Maruti Suzuki, has a portfolio of 13 cars among which are Grand i10 Nios, i20, i20 N-Line, Aura, Exter, Venue, Venue N-Line, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson, Kona Electric and Ioniq 5. The company will be augmenting this portfolio with facelifts in 2024 to include the Creta facelift, Alcazar and Tucson while the company will also be introducing an electric version of the Creta.
Globally, Hyundai and Kia are among the leading electric car makers. In India however, they operate in premium segments as we can see with Kona Electric, Ioniq 5, EV6 and the likes. Hyundai is set to change that with Creta EV, its first mainstream electric car that could spawn a Kia version in the form of Seltos EV or Kia EV3.
In its home market China, BYD sells an extensive range of electric cars under Dynasty and Ocean series. Both of these have multiple sub-brands including Yuan. As revealed via homologation documents, the Yuan range will soon see the addition of Yuan UP compact electric SUV.
Hyundai was one of the first carmakers to hit the ground running with EVs in India, but the Korean carmaker has so far only operated in premium segments with the Kona and Ioniq 5 EVs. Come 2025, Hyundai will finally be entering the mass-market EV segment in India with the Creta EV.
There has been a paradigm shift in the Indian auto industry with the arrival of electric cars. Every automaker worthy of its name has not only ventured into this segment but has also reaped rich rewards. Set to take this leap of success even further, new and improved electric cars are on the horizon for launch in 2024 and beyond.
Toyota had a slow shift where electric vehicles are concerned. But the shift is happening and in quite a swift manner. Hyundai is all set to expand the Creta SUV line-up next year. Along with the much-awaited Creta facelift, the Korean brand is also readying the Creta EV to take on the Maruti eVX. While the Creta facelift for India will see a debut early next year, the Creta EV will be revealed sometime in late 2024, with a price announcement expected in 2025.
