2024 Honda Prologue Starts Under $40k With Tax Credit

Honda has announced that the MY2024 Honda Prologue will be eligible for the lucrative $7,500 tax credit incentive, reducing the price of the new electric crossover considerably and making it more appealing to customers.

For the automaker, this update has come at the perfect time. Electric vehicle sales have been in a slump, partly due to the high cost of entry. As Honda's first modern EV available in the United States, the Prologue has to succeed and has a greater chance of doing so if it has lower pricing. So, without further ado, let's look at the revised pricing structure.

With the tax credit, the entry-level Prologue EX 2WD retails for $39,900, which is on par with rivals like the 2024 Nissan Ariya, which received a recent price cut. The revised Volkswagen ID.4 also has pricing similar to the Prologue.

The EX 4WD dual motor derivative is now $42,900, representing a massive saving compared to the pre-incentive MSRP of $50,400.

The mid-spec Touring is also privy to the discount, with the 2WD and 4WD variants retailing for $44,200 and $47,200 (after incentives). Even the plushest version of the Prologue, the Elite Dual Motor AWD, gets the $7,500 discount. The final price for this range-topper? $50,400.

«Having the Honda Prologue qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit is great news for our customers. The Prologue is stylish, sporty, and priced right, hitting the sweet spot of the EV market and meeting the demand from our customers,» said Lance Woelfer, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales.

There is a small caveat, however. Honda has said that most 2024 Prologues will qualify for the incentive. What does this mean? Only examples built after February 26, 2024, qualify for the tax credit. However, Honda has said all MY2024 Prologues qualify for the incentive through leasing.

The Honda Prologue (and its upmarket Acura ZDX sibling) is built alongside the Chevrolet Blazer EV at General Motors' Ramos Aripe facility in Mexico. The same GM BEV3 platform, Ultium batteries, and Ultium drive motors underpin all three vehicles. Co-developing EVs keeps costs down, and there were plans for Honda and GM to work together on affordable electric cars, but that
