The Xiaomi SU7 might be selling like hotcakes in China, but numerous owners have experienced issues shortly after taking delivery of the compelling new EV. Just this week, the owner of a bright blue SU7 was reportedly left stranded after just 24 miles (39 km) and told the car will have to be sent back to the factory for analysis and see if it can be repaired.The electric sedan, owned by a man known as Mr. Wen, was being driven along a highway on May 5, just the day after it was collected from a Xiaomi delivery center in Fujian Province.
Since the Xiaomi SU7 began deliveries on April 3 there have been no shortage of stories about accidents involving the car and instances where the car has gone wrong. However the latest incident is probably the most bizarre to date. The car broke down after traveling just 39 kilometers and cannot be repaired, the saleroom needs to return it to the factor for analysis.
The 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition kicks off today. In a press conference, Lei Jun, the Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, revealed the Xiaomi SU7 secured lock-in orders (non-refundable deposits) of 75,723 units, with 5,781 units delivered as of 24 April, only 28 days after its initial launch.

While there is no shortage of SUVs in China, local brands keep expanding their lineups to grab a larger piece of the sales pie. The latest example is the iCar V23, reportedly developed by Chery’s new EV brand in collaboration with Xiaomi-owned Zhimi Technology.
On April 7, Chery’s iCar V23 made its debut in China. This car is the first model jointly developed by Chery and Zhimi Technology, and is iCar’s second mass-produced model after the iCar 03. Positioned as a pure electric small SUV for young consumers, it is expected to officially unveil on April 12 and launched in the second half of 2024.
Xiaomi will deliver 60,000 vehicles in 2024 and lose money in the first two years, a financial research firm CreditSights announced. Meanwhile, local media reported that Xiaomi’s Beijing factory’s production capacity is 4,000 – 5,000 units in April and gradually ramp up to 6,000 units by the end of the year.
