Daikoku Parking Area in Tokyo is a must-visit for car fans

TOKYO — I've long been a fan of Japanese cars, particularly modded ones. And even before I had this job, that enthusiasm drove some of my travels. When I was 12, my family had an amazing opportunity to visit Japan for a couple of weeks, and at the top of my list of things to do was to visit the Mazda museum and factory in Hiroshima (and yes, I was already angling for a Miata or RX-7 hopefully as my first car in a few years). Then in college, I had some time and money that let me go to the Tokyo Auto Salon. There are still plenty of things to tick off my Japanese automotive bucket list. Lexus AreneOS lets you point at objects outside your car and get info

TOKYO — Concept cars range from basically ready-to-produce to total fantasy. Lexus brought two concepts to the Japan Mobility Show that fell somewhere in the middle, with each closer to one end. We already talked about the various simulations of old cars, but the other feature is the «Interactive Reality in Motion» feature of the future AreneOS Lexus is working on. We got to ride in a prototype with the system, and while it's very early in development, it presents some interesting possibilities.

Nissan says next GT-R will be electric, needs solid state batteries

Nissan took its «vision for a next-generation all-electric high-performance supercar» — the equivalent of a futuristic GT-R concept — to the Japan Mobility Show in the form of the Hyper Force. This was a battery-electric, carbon-fiber-bodied coupe harnessing more than 1,300 horsepower through the automaker's e-4orce all-wheel drive. Sounds exactly GT-R to us. Nissan didn't specify how many motors went into making that output, but it did specify that solid-state batteries supplied the energy to those motors. Top Gear spoke to carmaker Nissan product boss Ivan Espinoza, who made it clear that a production version of a future GT-R will need to wait for solid-state batteries to be market-ready.

Toyota's NEO Steer Yoke Gets Rid Of Pedals Entirely - And It Actually Works

Toyota stood by its «Mobility for All» philosophy at this year's Japan Mobility Show. Amid the new vehicles and radical concepts at the show, we found the new NEO Steer concept. The wild yoke steering wheel made its debut a few days before the show, but we didn't know exactly what it was for. Now we know more, and it's brilliant.
