Now that that 2025 Porsche Taycan is out offering a larger battery and four-figure horsepower, and a trick suspension, and the capability to set lap records at famous tracks, the sibling Audi E-Tron waits in the wings to take the stage. Based on reviews of an early prototype, Audi engineers ladled in more performance and then finessed the delivery of that performance. More powerful motors are going to deliver more horsepower, the final figure's up for debate; Autocar believes 700 hp is the likely tally, Car magazine thinks 800 hp is the real number — both of those requiring the car's Boost function to hit. Either would make an impact compared to the 523 hp in the E-Tron GT and 637 hp in the RS E-Tron GT. Based on reports that Audi will add the word «Performance» to the model name, 800 hp seems a more worthy figure. The Taycan Turbo, after all, got a raise from 616 hp to 871 hp.

Stow the top, there are 4.6 cubic feet available for soft-sided bags. Neck warmers built into the seats come standard, a wind blocker lives on the options menu.

Dodge already said it is launching the 2024 Charger Daytona in entry-level R/T trim and a more powerful Scat Pack trim. Mopar Insiders' dealer contacts gave the outlet a look at order guides for the coupe and sedan, revealing there will be five variants of these two trims — two for the R/T and three for the Scat Pack. According to the guides, the First Editions will only offer three exterior colors: Diamond Black, Triple Nickel, and White Knuckle. Starting with the R/T, as previously announced, they come with the eStage 1 Upgrade that adds 40 horsepower in PowerShot mode, taking peak output to 496 hp and 404 pound-feet of torque. The base configuration will come with the Demonic Red Seats with red and silver stitching and perforated inserts. Also standard is the Plus Group of heated and ventilated leather front seats and heated back seats, interior ambient lighting, a 16-inch gauge cluster, LED headlights with a full-width LED light bar, and illuminated door handles. Outside, the car sits on 20-inch aluminum wheels.

The launch schedule slipped just a bit, but the Cadillac Optiq is finally here — or there, rather, in China, where it debuted online before meeting the public at this month's Beijing Auto Show. Cadillac debuted the exterior in November, a wider online reveal now lets us look in the cabin. The steering wheel and curved display for the digital cluster match the larger Lyriq. Below the instrument panel beltline, the two design diverges. The Optiq's central area features a horizontal trim element that can illuminate with ambient lighting, they match rows of illuminated horizontal lines in the door cards. The lower expanse is concave instead of convex, with an open cubby under the HVAC controls as opposed to enclosed storage. Two USB-C ports to the left of the cubby will spare occupants from having to fish around in a pocket to plug in. The infotainment rotary dial and cupholder area looks the same as on the Lyriq, but because the Optiq's arm rest is thinner, there's a new design between the seats and the two elements are joined in a different way.

As with all trends, different manufacturers are experiencing different fortunes during the current EV vicissitudes. After an expensive learning and adaptation stage with the first i3, BMW finds itself on the high side currently, deliveries of the i4, iX1, and i7 up 41% in the first quarter of the year and the Munich automaker projecting 20% of its global deliveries in 2024 will be battery-electric. Hitting the 20% target would be a 5% gain over 2023. Continuing to look to the future, BMW announced it has signed a long-term partnership with Rimac Technology to «co-develop and co-produce innovative solutions in field of high-voltage battery technology for selected battery-electric vehicles.» This means high-voltage (800 volts or more) packs and architectures for future BMW products, neither automaker hinting at what those products might be.
