Scrapyard Gem: 2008 SEAT Altea

The mighty Volkswagen Group Empire has absorbed quite a few storied brands over the decades, from Porsche to Bentley to Scout, but you won't see the products of one of its biggest subsidiaries on American streets. That's SEAT, whose products are common sights all over Western Europe. In order to find used-up SEATs, your best bet is to travel to junkyards on the other side of the Atlantic, which I did recently. Today's Junkyard Scrapyard Gem is an Altea compact MPV, found in a self-service boneyard in Yorkshire, England.

What's Cupra? Here's what the brand makes now, and what could come to America

With VW's announcement that its Cupra subsidiary will be hitting the U.S. by the end of this decade, we thought it was a good time to take a little look at the brand that not many Americans may be familiar with. And while it doesn't have any history in America, as a standalone brand Cupra's history is pretty short in Europe, too. It launched in 2018, and the brand has its origins as the performance line of Spanish SEAT, which was yet another VW subsidiary. But its focus on performance remains, even as its own brand. Its lineup is a bit unusual, though, as it has its own Cupra models, but also still has high-performance variants of the SEAT line.

Sainz returns to F1 racing in Australia after appendix surgery

MELBOURNE, Australia — Turns out Ferrari's Carlos Sainz didn't need to “raise his hand” and have another driver take his place during the first two practice sessions for Sunday's Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

These Are the Hottest F1 Teammate Dramas in 2024 So Far

The 2024 Formula 1 season has just barely gotten underway, but if there's one thing we can look forward to at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix, it's the hot teammate battles that have already started simmering. In the first two races of the season, we've seen explosive blowouts and attempts at political maneuvering that have injected a little extra interest into weekends dominated by Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

Sebastian Vettel Confirms Porsche 963 Le Mans Hypercar Test Next Week

When four-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel hung up his suit in 2022 at the age of 34, fans were disappointed, if not surprised. Disappointed because Seb was always one of the shining stars among F1's elite, even if he found considerably less success later in his grand prix career; unsurprised because, well, everyone reaches their limit of frustration eventually. The hope was that we'd see Vettel on track again in short order, and we may just get our wish this year. Vettel will test Porsche's 963 Le Mans hypercar in the coming days, at Motorland Aragón in Spain. What comes after that? We'll just have to wait and see.

VW Will Bring This Brand Stateside, Betting on EVs

Fans of European cars will know Volkswagen's Spanish brand SEAT, but odds are Cupra will need a slightly more elaborate introduction. Formerly an independent automaker launched in Spain in the 1950s, SEAT had been brought into the VW fold in the 1980s offering a lineup that was once fairly close to VW designs by the 1990s. This meant we saw quite a few compact and midsize sedans that could be easily mistaken for VW models from afar, but with Spanish model names like Ibiza, Alhambra, Toledo, Leon, and Cordoba, to name a few. The brand itself has been quite popular in southern Europe, while also exporting its car
