CarBuzz has discovered eight new trademarks filed by Volkswagen over the past few weeks in various intellectual property offices, the bulk of which were filed at the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA). A couple more were filed with Mexico's and Chile's respective equivalents, potentially indicating that these new names are destined for vehicles outside the North American market.

CASCAIS, Portugal — BMW’s even-numbered X-series line of slope-back crossovers is proof that not every vehicle has to make perfect sense. The German brand basically invented the genre when it significantly reduced the usability of its otherwise luxurious and practical X5 by redesigning its roofline to reduce its capacity to hold humans and cargo while simultaneously making it more expensive. The X6, back in 2008 or today, doesn’t make sense. Except it sort of does once you realize and accept that it was all done in the name of style. Either way, the world was introduced to a new category of vehicles that BMW termed the Sports Activity Coupe.

Mini says the vehicle you see here, the 2025 John Cooper Works Countryman, embodies "charismatic simplicity." Oliver Heilmer, head of design at Mini, used that phrase a whole bunch of times while presenting the new Countryman in Lisbon a few weeks back. After driving the JCW version, I can confirm that there’s some level of charisma built into this two-box crossover. Simplicity? I’m not so sure about that one.
