Biggest crane in the east heads to Baltimore to remove bridge debris

The largest crane on the Eastern Seaboard was being transported to Baltimore so crews on Friday can begin removing the wreckage of a collapsed highway bridge that has halted a search for four workers still missing days after the disaster and blocked the city's vital port from operating. As the sun rose Friday, a crane could be seen at the site.

The $24,999 Fisker Ocean Might Not Actually Exist

Fisker dropped a bombshell when it announced significant price cuts for the 2023 Ocean. The entry-level Ocean Sport with a $24,999 starting MSRP (not including destination) makes it the cheapest electric vehicle in the United States. But after considerable searching and a conversation with Classic Fisker in Atlanta—the only dealership listed on the company's website—we found a problem. It seems this ultra-cheap luxury SUV doesn't exist. Furthermore, the midrange Ocean Ultra at $34,999 might be a fairy tale, too.

The Baltimore Bridge Collapse Is About to Get Even Messier

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the global supply chain and US coastal infrastructure collided in the worst possible way. An enormous container ship, the Dali, slammed into a support of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, crumpling its central span into the Patapsco River and cutting off the city’s port from the Atlantic Ocean. Eighteen hours later, at approximately 7:30 pm Tuesday evening, rescuers called off a search, with six missing people presumed dead.

Automakers to Face Shipping Disruptions Following Baltimore Bridge Collapse

Numerous automakers are facing shipping challenges on America's Eastern seaboard following the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, which left six people missing and presumed dead. The collapse occurred after a 948-foot container ship collided with the bridge, bringing it down almost immediately. On Tuesday, following the collapse, the Port of Baltimore said that vessel traffic in and out of the port would be suspended until further notice, though trucks within the port's terminals can still be processed. The port's closing has created a logistical headache for many automakers who use the area to import vehicles into the United States. Most major automakers use this location to import and export vehicles and parts. A report from Automotive News notes that Volkswagen and BMW are two examples of automakers that will be less affected because their terminals are located east of the bridge and remain accessible. Others are not so lucky, the paper said, and are being forced to find workarounds until things can return to normal. «This is a terrible tragedy and our sym

Why the Baltimore Bridge Collapsed So Quickly

Just shy of half past 1 in the morning, the MV Dali, a giant container ship, was sailing gently out of the port of Baltimore when something went terribly wrong. Suddenly, lights all over the 300-meter-long vessel went out. They flicked on again a moment later, but the ship then began to veer to the right, toward one of the massive pylon-like supports on the Francis Scott Key truss bridge—a huge mass of steel and concrete that spans the Patapsco River.
