The next-generation BMW M4 will reportedly drop its petrol engine in favour of battery power – but buyers of the BMW M3 sedan may still have the choice of petrol power after all, a new report claims.
BMW designed a radical mid-engined hybrid supercar to succeed the i8, but never put it into production. Kept secret for four years and revealed only now by BMW head designer Domagoj Dukec on social media, the striking i16 could have been the M performance division's second bespoke model after the 1978 M1 supercar. We last checked in with Bimmerpost forum user «ynguldyn» a few months ago, when the BMW insider updated his master post of product intel with news that the M2 would get a power bump this year to 475 horses. Sticking with the 2 Series family, ynguldyn's recent update claims the 2025 M240i and M240ix will get the option of a carbon roof starting with August production.
Following a tremendously successful sales year, BMW M is in rude health and plans to introduce several new models to keep increasing profits. Importantly, this means that manual-equipped M cars, such as the M2 and M3, are here to stay for a while longer. And you can thank enthusiast buyers for that.
